Combat in Minecraft has always been kind of simple. Swords are used against nearby targets, bows are used against distant targets, and oddly enough a fishing rod can be used to quickly close distances by hooking players and dragging them close enough to slash them with a sword. The Spellcraft mod for Pocket Edition 0.14.0 really changes up combat by giving players all kinds of special spells which produce tons of magical effects, like fire damage, improved movement speeds, health regeneration and more. Just think of the spells as potions which you can use instantly and which have longer durations.
In total, the Spellcraft mod adds 13 spells to Minecraft Pocket Edition. Everything starts with the spell crafter, which you make by combining a crafting table with eight pieces of paper. The box will look like a crafting table on the top panel, but more like a chest when viewed from the sides. Clicking the side of the box will open a small inventory screen where you must first place all of your spell ingredients before you can actually make the spell. Clicking the top of the box will open a crafting GUI where you can actually make the spells, but not before you’ve stashed the right ingredients.
Before actually choosing to craft a spell, you can scroll through the different spells you have available and read a little about each of them. Spells cannot be spammed infinitely like they were potions though. Instead, spells in Spellcraft work on an Essence meter, sort of like a magic meter in Legend of Zelda games. Using spells decreases the total essence, and the bar slowly regenerates on its own when you aren’t using spells. Each cast costs about 20 essence and the bar can hold 200 when full, so you do get the chance to fling 10 different spells before you absolutely have to stop and rest.
